Expansion of Lutterworth logistics park could create thousands of jobs

SIX thousand new jobs are set to be created at a Lutterworth distribution park.

Developers of Magna Park have announced plans to expand – taking the total number of jobs to 15,000.

IDI Galaxy wants to extend the park onto a further 200 hectares of land to the north to build more distribution warehouses for logistics operators.

Proposals also include new facilities for the community, including a community park and a logistics academy which will help young people aged 14-19 to learn skills in the logistics sector.

Jim Griffin, chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s Rugby branch, said: “The expansion will bring major benefits to the region’s economy and is a further example of just how sought-after our location is – at the heart of the UK’s road network.

“This will bring additional jobs and investment to the area at a time when Rugby and the surrounding borough is growing significantly.

“In my view, this is another example of the huge potential we have here and how that is starting to be realised.”

IDI Gazeley Planning Manager Gwyn Stubbings said: “Magna Park Lutterworth is a great success story for the wider region and is the largest employment location within the district.

“The logistics industry is expected to create almost one million new jobs in the UK by the end of the decade, supporting the whole country’s economic growth.”

Magna Park Lutterworth is regarded as one of the most successful logistics and distribution parks in Europe, and currently employs 9,300 people across 25 different businesses.

The expansion plans can be viewed by the community at a public exhibition, where there will be chance to comment on and help shape the proposals.

The first exhibition will be held at Lutterworth Town Hall, High Street on Friday November 14 and 2-8pm and Saturday November 15 and 10am-3pm.
