AN EASTER extravaganza is coming to Rugby town centre next month.
Rugby Borough Council (RBC) will host a day of local markets and events – including food and drink, live entertainment and drop-in workshops – in Market Place, High Street and Sheep Street on Saturday April 4 from 9am to 4pm.
The Rugby Rotary Club will also host an Easter egg hunt in Caldecott Park from 10am to 2pm.
The Easter celebrations will also feature the launch of Rugby’s Teenage Market – the first of its kind for the town.
A council spokesperson said: “The Teenage Market will give young people aged 11-25 a platform for skills development, and a chance to gain confidence, business know-how, and real-world experience in running a market stall.
“Teenage Market events offer a free way for young people to engage with their local communities, helping them to develop skills and entrepreneurship while boosting footfall into and enhancing the vibrancy of town centres.”
Coun Maggie O’Rourke, RBC’s Portfolio Holder for Partnerships and Wellbeing, said: “The Rugby Teenage Market initiative is key to identifying a new generation of market traders and making young local people an active and positive part of our town centre.”
Coun Neil Sandison, RBC’s Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Partnerships and Wellbeing, added: “Rugby has amazing diversity and talent amongst its teenagers, and this will be a great way to celebrate that energy.”
Coun Rob Howard, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economy and Growth, said: “It’s fantastic that we’re supporting teenage markets, providing a great opportunity for our young people. I hope that local people will come out and support it.
“Teenage Markets are a brilliant way to give young people real-world experience and confidence. They help develop entrepreneurial skills while bringing energy and creativity to our town centres. We’re excited to be able to support any places in Warwickshire that would like to take this opportunity.”
