Dog rescue volunteers shortlisted for national award

Rugby Editorial 14th May, 2021   0

VOLUNTEERS at a dog rescue charity based in Rugby have been shortlisted for a national award.

Pawprints Dog Rescue has been shortlisted for Team of the Year in the Petplan and ADCH Animal Charity Awards 2021.

Now in their ninth year, the awards recognise the work carried out by animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands.

Pawprints is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers which neuters, vaccinates and provide treatment for injured or abused dogs. The charity has rescued over 2,000 dogs that would otherwise have been put to sleep over the last decade.

Head of Operations Anita Twigger said: “Being a finalist feels like a major achievement. With so many excellent rescue teams throughout the UK, to be selected in the final three is wonderful recognition for our team, and we couldn’t be prouder of them all.

“This year marks our ten year anniversary and as we reach that milestone, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 UK dogs that would have been put to sleep without our intervention.

“From our supporters to our foster carers, shop volunteers, and all the trustees – everyone is hands on, working together to save as many dogs’ lives as we can. For such a small, volunteer-led team to be recognised is a massive honour.

“Thank you to everyone who nominated us and to the whole team for their fantastic support.”

Petplan’s head of marketing, Isabella von Mesterhazy, said: “We’re delighted to announce the finalists of the Petplan and ADCH Animal Charity Awards 2021. The awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the hard work and dedication of animal charity staff, teams, and volunteers who’ve gone that extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need.

“It was fantastic to receive so many inspirational nominations and we’re looking forward to celebrating with all of our worthy finalists. It’s also an opportunity to say thank you to all of those in the animal charity sector who’ve continued to look after the UK’s animals during Covid-19.”

The winners will be announced at 8.30pm on Thursday May 20 at a virtual awards ceremony on Facebook @PetplanUK, hosted by comedian and actor Marcus Brigstocke.
