CREATIVE kids in Rugby are being challenged to name the borough’s new food waste collection vehicles.
Rugby Borough Council (RBC) has launched a competition inviting primary school children to name the new lorries, which will support the council’s new food waste recycling service starting Monday July 6.
The competition will be judged according to creativity, originality, and relevance to food waste, and will be judged by a panel of local leaders, including council members and waste management experts.
Coun Alison Livesey, RBC’s spokesperson for Operations and Traded Services and one of the judges, said: “I am thrilled to be judging this competition, giving the children of Rugby a chance to make a permanent contribution to our new food waste service.
“Getting them excited about recycling helps them to understand why going green helps the environment by reducing waste. Involving them in the launch of our new service is a great way of doing that.”
Her Liberal Democrat counterpart Coun Sam Edwards added: “The new food waste service is a great opportunity to educate the next generation about recycling and why we all need to do our bit.
“Including children in the launch of our service ahead of the rollout on July 6 is key to teaching them about the service itself, and the difference they and their families can make.”
Running to March 23, the competition is open to all primary school children in the borough, and the winning entries will be announced on March 27.
Pupils can submit their entries by asking parents, guardians, or school to email their submission to [email protected] on their behalf. Alternatively, an RBC representative will collect entry sheets from schools on the closing date.
