A CREATIVE kid enjoyed a ‘wonderful’ visit to the corridors of power as a prize for winning the Christmas Card competition run by Rugby’s MP.
Valeria Wilkinson and her family joined Mark Pawsey for a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
The Rugby Free Primary School pupil and her parents, Andrew and Elena, were shown around the Palace of Westminster, getting an inside look at the workings of Parliament and seeing inside some of the most famous corridors in the political world.
After that, they watched Prime Ministers Questions from the public gallery before joining Mr Pawsey for Tea on the Terrace.
Valeria’s bold and colourful Christmas candle design was sent to charities, organisations and businesses throughout Rugby and Bulkington last year – and Mr Pawsey hand-delivered a copy to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Parliament.
Valeria said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all who made it possible for me to visit the Houses of Parliament. I really enjoyed the tea and crumpets and the wonderful tour of the Palace of Westminster.
“I was asked by every one of my teachers the next day how my visit to Parliament had been and what I had seen. I had so much to tell them, I was almost late for school!
“I really enjoyed telling my whole class about my visit to Parliament and the wonderful experiences on the day.”
Mr Pawsey said: “I was delighted to welcome Valeria and her parents to Parliament and show them the heart of UK democracy. It’s always a great pleasure to be able to thank the winner of my Christmas card competition and Valeria and her family were particularly fortunate to be able to watch Prime Minister’s Questions during their visit.
“I’d also like to once again thank everyone who entered my competition last year for taking part.”
