A NEW initiative to provide training and support for residents and businesses in Rugby is in the offing.
Rugby Borough Council has secured £9.9million to help deliver a training and innovation hub in the town centre which will offer financial and employment training.
The fund, secured by legal agreement from the Frasers Group, will support the hub’s primary activities, including work-readiness training, support for small businesses to access construction and supply chain activities, and training and innovation schemes for wider community projects.
The hub will also undertake outreach work for seldom-heard and hard-to-reach groups in the borough.
The council is currently considering options to provide the hub.
Council leader Coun Michael Moran said: “Rugby’s town centre is an historic and significant part of our town, and its regeneration is of vital importance.
“That’s why it is so exciting to have secured this tranche of funding to help support upskilling and training for the people of Rugby, as well as supporting our businesses prepare for the future.”
Coun Jerry Roodhouse, Chair of the Town Centre Working Group, added: “Securing this funding to provide vital support for the businesses and people of Rugby is a huge boost for our town centre.
“We are excited to launch the training and innovation hub as soon as we can and help to provide our local businesses with the skills and knowledge needed to take their businesses forward.”
