Council ready to help residents and businesses as third lockdown begins

CONTINGENCY plans for a third lockdown are being implemented by Rugby Borough Council (RBC).

RBC’s leader said the council was ready to help residents and businesses as Covid-19 restrictions tighten once again.

Coun Seb Lowe said: “The first lockdown was difficult for many of our residents and businesses, but it also showed that our communities can pull together to do what is right for Rugby.

“Rugby Borough Council is prepared for this third lockdown and will lead our communities through it, just as we continue to run the services that they rely on.

“We are supporting the new rapid test centre that opens this week, and also supporting the vaccination effort being delivered by GPs across the borough.

“And, we continue to distribute financial support to businesses as these funds become available from the government.”

He added the council was ready and willing to help the borough’s most vulnerable residents.

“We know that residents who are clinically extremely vulnerable will be anxious at this time and we have remained in touch with these residents who have needed our support,” he said.

“A further lockdown period brings with it another period of uncertainty. However, if we all follow the guidelines and remember to wash our hands regularly, wear a face covering in enclosed spaces and keep apart from people we don’t live with, we can reduce the rate of infection and protect NHS services that are now under pressure.

“With the vaccine rollout now starting to accelerate, there is hope that things can get back to normal soon.”

Residents who need urgent support and who do not have friends, family, neighbours or community groups who can help can contact the council on (01788) 533 533.
