THE CHRISTMAS lights switch-on in Rugby has been cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns.
The annual event, which was due to take place in mid-November, typically attracts crowds of more than 6,000 people to the town centre.
Rich Warren, operations director of town centre management company Rugby First, said: “We understand and share the disappointment with everyone that has enjoyed the Christmas lights switch-on event in the past.
“The public’s safety is our priority and uncertainty over Covid-19 simply prevents us from being able to hold it this year.
“Christmas certainly isn’t cancelled however, and we are looking at other ways that residents and businesses can mark the festive season.”
Rugby First said plans for Christmas in Rugby this year were currently being discussed and would be announced shortly.
