Chef gives schoolkids a taste of Italy

A TASTE of Italy was enjoyed by kids at a Rugby primary school when a professional chef led them in a hands-on pizza-making workshop.

Pupils at Abbots Farm Junior School rolled dough, chose toppings and learned about where their food comes from, under the guidance of Ulisse Di Benedetto, engagement executive chef for school caterer Stir Foods.

They were shown how to prepare pizza dough from scratch, explored different ingredients and their origins, and discovered the importance of making good food choices from a young age.

Chef Di Benedetto said: “I can’t tell you how happy this session made me as the kids were so engaged and keen to learn how to make food.

“Food plays such an important role in all of our lives, and not only has an impact on our own well-being, but also on the planet around us.

“It’s so important that children have a healthy relationship with food and learn to respect ingredients and how things are made. We all had such a good time.”

Headteacher Gemma Webb added: “Chef Uli made us smile all day with his pizza workshop and he really helped the children understand why healthy eating is important, as well as why it’s vital that we are all equipped with the right skills and knowledge when it comes to our food.”
