CCTV footage captures the horrifying moment when an armed robber pointed a gun at a cashier at a petrol station in the town centre.

The one minute clip shows a man in a three-quarter length beige coat, and ski mask and woolly hat walk across the forecourt the Lutterworth Ford garage on Leicester Road to the kiosk where he was said to have demanded cash.

He held the gun pointing menacing at the member for staff for the whole time before seemingly giving up of getting anything and walking off.

Armed police were sent to the scene of the failed robbery at around 1.35am on Friday July 4, but failed to find him.

Investigations are continuing and police have released the footage in the hope someone will either recognise the man or recall seeing him before or after.

Detective Constable Gary Dunigan said: “The cashier has understandably been left shocked by what happened. Thankfully they were not injured at all during the incident.

“We have released this footage in the hope of helping us trace the person responsible.

“If you witnessed the incident, know who this man may be or saw him the Lutterworth area of the early hours of this morning then please come forward and contact us.”

Information can be given to police by calling 101 and entering DC Dunigan’s ID number which is 1939 when prompted or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
