LOOKING after young carers has seen a Rugby school become the first in Warwickshire to win a prestigious award.

Bilton C of E Junior School won the Young Carers Gold Award for helping to improve the lives of young people aged eight and upwards who take on extra responsibilities in caring for an ill or disabled family member.

Interim head teacher Alex Norton said: “We are so proud to be the first primary school in Warwickshire to achieve The Young Carers Gold Award and of the relationship we have built with the Young Carers organisation.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with them to support the Young Carers in our school community.”

Emma Bishop of the Warwickshire Young Carers Project said: “We are really pleased to present Bilton Junior School this award in recognition of their commitment to supporting Young Carers to achieve their full potential.”
