OFFENSIVE leaflets which were dropped on Rugby doormats in March have earned their distributor a Criminal Behaviour Order.
Damon Kelly appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court for sentencing in relation to harassment, following the distribution of offensive leaflets, on Friday (October 23).
Statements submitted to the court from members of the public across the UK, including Rugby, allowed Leicestershire Police to apply for a Criminal Behaviour Order.
The order means Kelly cannot ‘distribute unsolicited material about religious, sexual or reproductive topics to any residential, commercial or academic address in England and Wales’, and is banned from ‘calling at any residential premises in England and Wales without the prior permission of the occupier for the purpose of distributing unsolicited material’.
The order will run for a period of five years, a breach of which could result in a prison sentence.
Investigating Warwickshire officer PC Paula Ketley said: “This is a great result and I wish to thank the public for contacting Warwickshire Police and taking the time to provide a statement of complaint.
“Without your contribution, this order would not have been granted.”
