Appeal denied to murderer of Rugby dad Jordon Banton

KILLER Paul Clarke, one of two men jailed for the 2014 execution-style murder of Rugby father-of-three Jordon Banton, has failed in an appeal to have his conviction overturned.

Last February, Clarke, 35, of Bluebell Close, Rugby, and Darrell Akins, 28, of Follager Road, Rugby were both unanimously found guilty of murder and respectively sentenced to a minimum of 25 and 30 years before any chance of parole.

Clarke’s appeal argued the prosecution’s case should have been thrown out.

But, dismissing the appeal, the Judge said there was sufficient evidence against Clarke.

23-year-old Mr Banton was shot as he sat in his car in Newton Road on the morning of July 25, 2014.

Two shots were fired at him in front of passing motorists, and a third after his car swerved across the road into a ditch.

Akins is believed to have fired the shots, with Clarke acting as getaway driver.
