ROADS in the town centre were closed by police this morning (Monday March 8) when a woman suffered a medical emergency.

Sections of North Street and Church Street next to the Clock Tower were taped off.

Several ambulances attended, and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance landed at the former site of Gala Bingo, on the corner of North Street and Evreux Way.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9:08am to reports of a medical emergency in Market Place, Rugby.

“We sent the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, three land ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a woman in a critical condition. She was given basic life support on scene and on route to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“She travelled by land ambulance.”
