RUGBY Welsh RFC produced their best performance of the season to beat local rivals Rugby Lions 48-3 and lift the Warwickshire Vase Shield.
Welsh were taking part in their first-ever county cup final and exacted revenge on the Lions after losing both league matches against their rivals earlier this season.
The game took place at Berkswell and Balsall RFC’S Honiley Road ground in Kenilworth.
And Welsh took control of the game in the first half as Adam Frost kicked four penalties at the Lions struggled to deal with their opponents at the scrum.
Welsh eventually scored the game’s first try on the half-hour mark as Harry Wray burst through a gap to score from Frost’s pass.
Lions responded with their only points of the game soon after only to lose a player to the sin-bin shortly before the break.
And Welsh made the most of the man advantage as Lloyd Pulford scored his side’s second try to send Welsh into the break with a 21-point lead.
Welsh extended their lead early in the second half as James McGill side-stepped past a couple of players to touch down with Frost adding the extras.
And Welsh captain Jack Taylor then powered through a couple of tackles to dot down with Frost again kicking the conversion.
Welsh killed off any hopes of a Lions comeback when Harry Wray raced away down the blindside to score close to the posts as Frost kicked the extras.
And Welsh scored the game’s final try when Matt Cockman picked up a loose ball and burst down the touchline to score.
The final whistle sounded soon after as Welsh claimed the first piece of county silverware in the club’s history.
