DAVID Kolodynski’s goal sent Rugby Town into the next round of the FA Cup following a 1-0 win away at Barton Town.
Kolodynski scored the game’s only goal on 51 minutes at Marsh Lane as Valley proved too strong for the Northern Counties East League Premier Division side.
The victory means Rugby are in the hat for the Second Round Qualifying draw which takes place at 1pm on Monday, September 2.
Barton play one level below Rugby and made Valley work hard to continue their FA Cup journey.
Both teams hit the woodwork in the first half as Barton’s Tom Waudby saw his effort from outside the penalty area crash against the post.
And Valley then struck the outside of the post at the other end as Harrison Nee’s fired Kolodynski’s lay-off against the woodwork from inside the box.
Rugby goalkeeper Paul Hathaway made a superb save on the stroke of half time as he kept out Scott Phillips’ header to send the teams into the break on level terms.
However, Valley broke the deadlock six minutes after the interval as Kolodynski turned his man before firing a low shot into the corner from 22-yards out after Ryan Sahota won possession high up the pitch.
Barton struggled to create a clear-cut chance thereafter as Valley held firm while MJ Semahimbo and Nee both spurned chances to seal the win late on for the visitors.
Rugby are next in action against Carlton Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday, September 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
