MATTHEW Seaton led the way for Rugby Swimming Club at the Warwickshire County Championships after coming away from Coventry with two gold medals one silver and a bronze.

Held over the last three weekends, the County Championships are among the toughest in the country due to the amount of high-ranked clubs in the area.

Last year Rugby had one winner and a handfull of finalists and this time around they were looking to go one better.

Seaton was the top swimmer in both the 50m (31.13) and 100m (1:07.65) backstroke events while he also finished runner-up in the 50m freestyle after finishing in 28.32 and he came third in the 100m freestyle (1:01.62).

Harriet Troupe also tasted success after winning the girls under-11 200m back crawl in a new personal best time of 3:01.68, while Jessica Mackenzie overcame her disappointment after having a series of fourth and fifth place finished to win the 100m backstroke in 1:17.78, which was a clear second ahead of the field.

In the Uner-13s, Dan Carey enjoyed some success after winning bronze in the 100m butterfly final (1:18.41) in the 100m backstroke after finishing fourth in the final and he was seventh fastest to reach the 50 butterfly final but he was disqualified in the final.

Dan also finished fifth in the 100m freestyle final and he was just edged out of third place in the 50m freestyle final.

Brother Jack also impressed in the under-15 events by taking silver in both the 50m butterfly (30.81) and 50m backstroke (31.92).

Jack also finished third in the 50m freestyle (27.27) and became only the sixth Rugby swimmer to complete the 100m freestyle event in under 60 second. His time of 59.44 was enough to finish fourth.

Elsewhere, appearing in her first eber county final, Lana Rees Wilson Shrubb finished eighth in the 50 freestyle (37.29) and Ellen Armeson came runner-up in the 50 back crawl in a time of 33.77, as well as finishing fifth in the 100m event too.
