Afternoon Tea for Two in Stratford anyone?

Rugby Editorial 23rd Nov, 2021   0

The tradition of afternoon tea started in the 1840s when Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford complained of hunger during the late afternoon… something most of us can definitely relate to.

So what better way to spend an idyllic afternoon than in historic Stratford-upon-Avon sampling the beautiful British tradition of Afternoon Tea.

Traditional finger sandwiches on modern twists on super soft bread. Possibly accompanied by delectable cream cheese blinis that melt in your mouth. A selection of to-die-for handmade cakes then light, warm and buttery scones cooked to perfection, served with a healthy dollop of thick clotted cream and zingy strawberry jam.

Is your mouth watering yet?

All this with hot tea, perhaps a glass of fizz and good company in Shakespeare’s birthplace – the beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon.

You might like to finish it all off with a stroll along the river or a little poke around some of Stratford’s gorgeous shops. Stratford has lots of local independent stores which are great for shopping for Christmas presents. Plus you’re also supporting the local economy.

It doesn’t get much better does it?

If Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford could come back to life and see what she started all those years ago… I’m sure you’d see her in Stratford at one of these fine establishments.

We love the Midsummer Garden on Sheep Street, No 37 Cafe also on Sheep Street and Havilands Tea Room on Meer Street:
