Eight months of roadworks set to begin on bridge over M45 near Rugby

EIGHT months of roadworks at a road near Rugby are set to begin next week.

National Highways is carrying out a full refurbishment of the Main Street bridge which crosses the M45 between Thurlaston and Dunchurch.

Work will include concrete repairs to the structure, installing a new waterproof membrane, and an improved vehicle barrier. The carriageway and footpath over the bridge will also be resurfaced.

National Highways says the work is necessary to ensure the bridge ‘remains safe and reliable for many years to come’.

Work will begin on Tuesday (August 26) and continue to next April.

The bridge will be restricted to a single lane with temporary traffic lights. The route over the bridge will remain open for pedestrians.

The M45 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. There will also be short closures of the M45 at the start and end of the scheme to install and remove scaffolding.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “Some other short overnight road closures may be required to ensure the safety of the public and road workers. These will be kept to the minimum and towards the end of the works with further details being publicised nearer the time.

“As Main Street provides the only vehicle access into and out of the village of Thurlaston, every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum while the necessary maintenance work is completed.”
