TOM Latham and Sam Hain scored half-centuries in both innings as Warwickshire dug in to secure a County Championship draw against Somerset.

Somerset posted 498 in their first innings as Tom Lammonby and Tom Kohler-Cadmore both scored centuries at Edgbaston.

The Bears responded with 351 all out as Latham, Hain and Alex Davies all hit half-centuries.

Warwickshire debutant Corey Rocchiccioli then took five wickets as Somerset declared on 229-8 in their second innings.

And chasing 377 for victory, the Bears reached 161-4 as Latham and Hain impressed again with the bat.

Warwickshire took 11 points from the fixture while Somerset came away with 14 points.

The result leaves the Bears fifth in the County Championship Division One table.

Somerset punished the Bears attack in the first innings as openers Kohler-Cadmore (104) and Josh Davey (64) put on 186 runs for the first wicket.

And Lammonby (133) continued the punishment while Tom Abell (48) fell just short of a half-century.

The Bears eventually dismissed the visitors for just two runs shy of the 500-run mark.

Warwickshire’s top order similarly impressed with the bat as Davies (78), Latham (65) and Hain (78) all reached milestones.

However, dismissed for 351, the Bears trailed by 147 runs at the end of the first innings.

Australian spinner Rocchiccioli (5-67), who recently signed a short-term deal with the Bears, starred with the ball on debut as he claimed a five-for.

However, James Rew (62) still managed a half-century to increase Somerset’s lead.

Set 377 for victory, the Bears had just two sessions to bat.

Somerset made a couple of early inroads as Bears openers Davies (0) and Rob Yates (13) both fell in the first six overs.

However, Latham (52) and Hain (68 not out) frustrated the Somerset attack to all but ensure the game would end in a draw.

Latham was eventually caught and bowled by Craig Overton (1-16) while Jacob Bethell (12) also fell on his return to the side following England duty.

But the Bears comfortably saw out the remaining overs to solidify their position in the table.

Warwickshire are next in action against Sussex on Sunday, June 29 with the game to start at 11am at the County Ground.
