A INSPIRING filmmaker from Rugby is being thrust into the limelight.
Film education charity, Into Film, has named Dale Forder as one of three recipients of its ‘Filmmaking Champion’ award, which celebrates those who help young people find an outlet through filmmaking.
Dale will walk the red carpet at a glitzy ceremony which has previously been attended by some of the biggest stars in the industry – the likes of Daniel Craig, Charles Dance, Eddie Redmayne, Lily James, Ruth Wilson, Bill Nighy, Simon Pegg and Martin Freeman.
Dale has been supporting young people’s filmmaking since 2021 when he started using it to engage with youth theatre groups who could no longer collaborate in large in-person groups during Covid.
He now runs an extra-curricular film club at St Luke’s CE Primary School in Northampton, which encourages the older pupils to mentor the younger ones.
He gives the young people as much creative freedom as possible and only creates films that tackle topical issues for the club.
Previous films include ‘You Are Enough’, a film about exam stress and secondary school anxiety and ‘Dyslexia & Me’, a documentary/drama exploring children’s understanding of Dyslexia. The latter won Best Film in the 11 and under category at last year’s Into Film Awards.
And their current project is titled ‘Navigating the Net’, a film about internet and computer safety.
Dale said; “I’m thrilled to win this award! It’s a pleasure and an honour to be recognised for the work I do with young people, helping them create films, tackle topics that are relevant to them, gain confidence and learn storytelling, co-operation, problem solving and other skills.
“Supporting young people’s filmmaking is important to me as it’s a medium that can shape their educational and creative lives from a young age.”
The Awards, sponsored by the UK film industry, also celebrates young people’s creativity in film, showcasing and highlighting tomorrow’s creative talent.
