EASTER arts and craft activities will take over Rugby town centre during the school holidays.

Asda and Rugby First will host free Easter craft activities for kids on Monday (April 14) from 11am to 2pm in the supermarket’s cafe.

A variety of colourful and creative activities will be on offer, including the decorating of sweet jars and some special Easter themed items.

The activities, suitable for five-to-12-year-olds, will take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete.

ASDA Rugby Community Champion Kayley Griffiths said: “It’s great to be able to offer these free activities in partnership with Rugby First and help create some Easter magic for local kids. Asda is an important part of Rugby town centre and the local community, and this is a great way for us to get involved and support both, as well as provide some fun and exciting Easter activities for kids.”

Visit www.rugbyfirst.org or call Rugby First on 01788 569436 for more information.

A free Easter town centre trail will take place from Tuesday April 15 to Saturday April 26, excluding Sundays and Mondays.

Kids can collect a map and clues from Rugby Visitor Centre in the Rugby Art Gallery and Museum for a chance to win some Easter treats – with some help from the Easter bunny, who will be in town between 1pm and 2pm.

Sweet Art School and Rugby First are inviting children to join them for two Easter Cupcake decorating workshops at the St Matthews Street bakery on Wednesday (April 16) at 11am and 1pm.

The hands-on sessions will teach anyone aged eight and older to decorate two Easter-themed cupcakes to take home and enjoy.

The workshops will be led by Stef from Sweet Art School.

She said: “These workshops are all about creativity and fun – and who doesn’t love cupcakes? I’m looking forward to meeting those who join me on the day.”

Each workshop lasts around 45 minutes. The activity costs £5 per child and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Email [email protected] to book a place.

Rugby First is also sponsoring five free Easter themed workshops taking place at Art at the Alex.

The James Street art venue will host the workshops between Thursday April 17 and Saturday April 26.

The workshops, with an Easter twist, will be delivered by Rugby artists and makers who will show participants how to create fun items to gift, display or use.

Chris Pegler, owner of Art at the Alex, said: “This series of short, fun and creative workshops are introductory level and should appeal to all ages and abilities.

“Make a date to come along or perhaps come to more than one – they all offer something different.”

All materials are provided free and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No booking necessary. Visit www.artatthealex.com for more information.

Expert woodcarver Tom Jennings will lead a free spoon carving workshop at St Andrew’s Church Garden between 1pm and 4pm on Tuesday April 22.

Tom will teach participants how to craft a spoon with traditional tools and methods.

He said: “My workshops are always popular and it’s great to see people learn new skills and watch their faces when they turn a piece of wood into a beautiful spoon that they can then take home with them.”

Aprons and gloves will be provided, and the activity will take between 30 minutes and an hour to complete.

The activity is suitable for seven-year-olds and over. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No booking required.
