RUGBY Borough suffered a 4-1 home defeat against St Neots Town who clinched the league title with victory at Kilsby Lane.

Borough took an early lead courtesy of Danny Fraser’s penalty only for St Neots to score four unanswered goals on their way to winning the league title.

The result means Rugby sit third in the United Counties League Premier Division South table, seven points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off spot.

Borough made the perfect start when Fraser scored from the penalty spot after just five minutes.

However, St Neots equalised on 39 minutes when the referee pointed to the spot for a second time and Sam Willis struck a confident penalty into the net.

And the visitors completed the turnaround three minutes later as Rhys Thorpe finished at the second attempt after bursting into the penalty area.

St Neots eventually sealed the points on 79 minutes when Thorpe grabbed his second goal of the game.

And Charlie Bowen completed the scoring on 83 minutes when he rose highest to head in Murphy Culkin’s free-kick.

Rugby are next in action against Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday, April 12 with kick-off at 3pm at Willen Road.
