THOUGHTFUL residents at a Rugby care home have shared tasty treats with staff at a local hospice.
Residents and staff at Overslade House delivered cakes to the Myton Hospice Hub.
Overslade House residents Marjorie, Josie, Nathan, Jean and Violet went with the home’s Activities Team on a minibus trip to deliver cakes – made by the home’s Head Chef Corey Leake – to The Myton Hospice Hub in the grounds of St Cross Hospital.
Myton at Home Nursing Assistant Nicola Hughes, Partnerships Fundraiser Laura Eaton, and Receptionist Amanda Nixon gratefully received the cakes, which came in handy at the Hospice’s Coffee Connections session that afternoon.
Staff and residents enjoyed reminiscing about the charities they had supported over the years and the different things they had done to raise funds.
Resident Nathan said: “There are so many wonderful charities that do such fantastic work and we could not do without them.
“It was lovely to be able to help others and give something back.”
The care home’s Senior General Manger Violeta Beasu is also hoping to raise £1,000 for the hospice charity by doing a sponsored skydive in April.
She will dive through the clouds in a tandem skydive with Rose Tucker, the Activity Coordinator at sister care home Cubbington Mill in Leamington, on April 26.
Violeta said: “I am excited and also apprehensive about my sky dive for this wonderful cause and hope that one day we find a cure for cancer.
“Our goal is to raise awareness of the fantastic job Myton Hospice does for the people and the families they support.
“Everyone at Overslade has been really supportive; we’re daredevils and it’s for such a good cause so that keeps us focused.”
The Myton Hospices, which delivers compassionate end-of-life care at its facilities in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, needs to raise £11million of the £14.3million it costs to provide its services free of charge each year.
