KIMBERLEY Woods made a strong start to the new season after winning silver at the Canoe Slalom Oceania Championships in Penrith, Australia.
Woods, from Rugby, secured a silver medal in the women’s kayak cross event at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
The Rugby canoeist, who won double bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finished behind Tokyo gold medallist Ricarda Funk while three-time Olympic medallist Maialen Chourraut completed the podium.
Woods said: “I’m delighted to win silver at the Oceania Championship, my first here after competing over the years.
“It was amazing to have four Olympic medallists on the kayak cross ramp final.
“It was a long weekend of racing but a good stepping stone to think about what I need to work on for the next month before the Australian Open.”
Woods also finished seventh in the women’s kayak final and fifth in the canoe final just three seconds off a place on the podium.
The Penrith Whitewater Stadium will also play host to the ICF World Championships in October later this year.
