RUGBY Town saw their winless run in all competitions stretch to eight matches following a 1-0 defeat at Wellingborough Town.
Wellingborough’s Will Jones scored the game’s only goal on 16 minutes at the Dog and Duck Ground.
And the result means Valley sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, two points above the relegation zone.
The home side took the lead early in the first half as Jones headed in Tom Iaciofano’s cross at the back post from close range.
That came either side of a couple of missed chances for Valley as Adam North denied Trey Charles before the keeper also kept out Mikey Taylor’s low shot on the turn later in the half.
Charles spurned another chance after the break from inside the penalty area.
And new signing Sidik Atcha then somehow failed to make enough contact with Ethan O’Toole’s delivery from six-yards out.
Rugby are next in action against Coleshill Town on Saturday, October 12 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
