Olympians to be guests of honour at leisure centre open day

OLYMPIANS Lauren Henry and Mark Foster will be the star guests for Lutterworth Leisure Centre’s Family Open Day on Saturday (September 28).

Lauren, who lives in Lutterworth and races for Leicester Rowing Club, won gold in the women’s quadruple sculls at this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, adding to her European and World Championship golds of the previous 12 months.

Swimmer Mark Foster, a six-times world champion and two-times Commonwealth champion who competed at five Olympic Games, was a key part of the BBC’s presenting team at Paris 2024.

They will be part of the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and will support various sports and fitness activities during the day – and there will be plenty of opportunities to get autographs and selfies with both athletes.

Free activities on offer will include family swimming and pool inflatable sessions, a gym session with a live DJ, and group exercise classes.

Children can get their faces painted for free, and local businesses will set up stalls.

The centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Harborough District Council, is holding the open day to mark a recent refurbishment, which includes a new 100-station gym, refreshed exercise studios, a new soft play area, an enhanced poolside area and a new reception.

Lewis Humphreys, Everyone Active’s general manager, said: “The huge programme of activities and celebrity involvement will prove the ideal way to celebrate with the whole community.

“We want to show as many people as possible the superb facility on their doorstep. We would encourage people to book activities as soon as possible, to secure their place on the day.”

Coun Jo Asher, Harborough District Council’s spokesperson for Leisure, said: “I’m really looking forward to attending the open day and joining the community for this exciting family-friendly event.

“We’re fully invested in creating opportunities for people of all ages and levels of fitness to become and stay active to support positive mental and physical health. These welcome upgrades, brand new equipment, and additional facilities at Lutterworth will really deliver tangible benefits for all.”

The Open Day takes place from 10am-4pm on Saturday (September 28).
