WARWICKSHIRE suffered a semi-final exit in the One-Day Cup following a 39-run defeat against Glamorgan.

The Bears put Glamorgan into bat and restricted the home side to 247-9 at the end of their 50 overs at Sophia Gardens.

However, none of Warwickshire’s top order batters managed to score more than 15 runs with the Bears bowled out for 208 in the 47th over of their reply.

That came after Warwickshire claimed a thrilling four-wicket win against rivals Worcestershire at Edgbaston in the quarter-finals as Kai Smith’s heroic century guided the Bears to victory.

In Wales, after winning the toss and electing to bowl, Warwickshire picked up a spate of early wickets.

A blistering spell from Ed Barnard (4-34) saw the Bears bowler remove Asa Tribe (2), Kiran Carlson (8), Sam Northeast (6) and Will Smale (13) as Rob Yates took three catches.

And Michael Rae (2-35) then trapped Colin Ingram (47) LBW to leave Glamorgan in trouble on 90-5 in the 26th over.

The home side rallied as Billy Root (46) and Ben Kellaway (23) dug in before Oliver Hannon-Dalby (1-46) bowled the latter and Rae accounted for the former.

However, a superb half-century from Dan Douthwaite (55 not out) from just 35 deliveries, supported by Timm van der Gugten (26), helped the home side close on 247-9.

In reply, the Bears endured a difficult first 20 overs which saw them lose six wickets for the addition of just 62 runs.

Opener Yates (4) fell to van der Gugten (2-22) in the third over before Jamie McIlroy (3-42) took the wickets of Barnard (14) and Hamza Shaikh (8) as van der Gugten returned to dismiss Will Rhodes (4).

And Douthwaite (2-37) then removed Chris Benjamin (7) and quarter-final hero Smith (1) to leave Warwickshire in huge trouble on 62-6 in the 21st over.

However, Michael Burgess (85) and Jake Lintott (26) put on 87 runs for the seventh wicket to keep the Bears in the game.

Burgess eventually fell to the bowling of McIlroy just 15 runs shy of his century before Kellaway (2-47) removed Lintott shortly after with the Bears on 165-8.

A late flurry from Michael Booth (35) helped the Bears pass the 200-run mark only for Andy Gorvin (1-32) to strike to deny the visitors a place in the final.

Warwickshire return to County Championship action against Somerset on Thursday, August 22 with the game to begin at 11am.
