Enthusiastic pupils brighten up Friendship Day at Rugby care home

‘ENTHUSIASTIC’ students in Rugby brightened up the day when they visited a care home to celebrate Friendship Day.

Residents at Overslade House made some new friends from Rugby Free Secondary School, who can’t wait to come back and talk to the residents again.

The residents reminisced with the students about their friendships over the years, and talked about historical events with the help of some old newspapers.

The International Day of Friendship was launched in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between people, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Although it doesn’t fall until July 30, the students wanted to meet the Overslade House residents before their summer break.

Maureen, a resident at the home, said: “We’ve had such a lovely day. It has been wonderful to make new friends and talk to the students who were so enthusiastic and brightened up everybody’s day.”

The home’s General Manager Violeta Baesu said: “Everyone was keen to meet the students. It was really nice to see residents engaging with the students and also with their friends both in and outside the home, and I think it made everyone realise just how amazing it is to have good friends.”
