DEDICATED pupils at Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School certainly got in character for their end of year production – with some boys even shaving their heads for the role.

Before: Hair today…
Thirty Year 4 and 5 children entertained friends and family with two performances of their production ‘Barry Potter and the Villain from Venus’.
They were all volunteers at a lunchtime drama club run by teaching assistant Colin Gynn. The play included diverse characters such as Barry Potter, Ron Beasley and Traco Malfoy from Huge Warts Military Academy as well as Lady Ga Ga, the Pink Ladies from Grease and a group of Ska loving ‘Rude Boys’ from the 1980s bands Madness, The Specials and The Beat.
A number of boys ‘joined the marines’ or became ‘Rude Boys’ for their parts which included a visit to Rugby Barbers for a dramatic new haircut.

After: Ready to play Marines and Rude Boys.
Mr Gynn, who wrote the play himself, said “All the children were fully committed to the show and gave fantastic performances. They received an amazing ovation at the end, which was fully deserved.”
The production included well known songs from across the decades including Sweet Caroline, Mamma Mia and Eye of the Tiger as well as a medley of songs by Queen.
Headteacher Lisa Bernard said “The children demonstrated amazing confidence and thoroughly enjoyed their production. Audience participation was excellent with parents joining in with songs! It was one of the highlights of our school year.”
