Mini mathematicians from Rugby triumph in annual competition

MINI mathematicians from schools in Rugby have triumphed in an annual competition.

A team from Cawston Grange Primary School took first place in this year’s Princethorpe College Year 5 Maths Challenge, with Crescent School’s team sharing second place with Bridgetown Primary School from Stratford.

They came out on top of 52 pairs of talented Year 5 mathematicians from 25 local schools.

Ably supported and marked by a team of Princethorpe Year 10 pupils, the competition – organised by Douglas Buchanan of DCBEAGLE Challenges – challenged the youngsters with a series of mathematical puzzles which required reasoning skills and mathematical knowledge.

The winning teams all received mathematical prizes presented by Princethorpe College’s Head of Maths, Sharon McBride, and everyone who participated received a certificate and a special Princethorpe cookie.

Sharon McBride said: “The College was delighted to host and support this event. It was a great opportunity for all to put their maths skills to the test and proved to be an exciting morning of mathematical challenges.

“We were really impressed by the children, well done to everyone who took part.”

Local schools wishing to take part in next year’s challenge can visit www.dcbeagle.com or email Douglas Buchanan at [email protected] for more information.
