A ‘FANTASTIC’ new nursery has brought a ‘new lease of life’ to a previously derelict building at a New Bilton primary school.
The new Acorns Nursery building has been officially opened at Oakfield Primary Academy, revitalising the building which formerly housed the school’s disused Children’s Centre.
New Bilton Councillors John Slinger and Ish Mistry met staff from the school and the wider academy chain before attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony and receiving an extensive tour of the new nursery facilities and the wider primary school.
Head of School Sara Nealon said: “We are so pleased and proud that the lonely and derelict Children’s Centre now has a new lease of life as our beautiful, bespoke school nursery. Using the building for the youngest members of our School Community and seeing the transformation that it has undergone is wonderful.
“We are so pleased that our nursery now has increased capacity for local families and our local community so that our children’s journey as part of the Oakfield Primary Academy gets off to a flying start in this bespoke building.”
Coun Slinger said it was a privilege to attend the opening ceremony.
He said: “I was hugely impressed by what the staff have done to transform this building into fantastic facilities for the nursery.
“We were taken on a tour of the whole school by three very impressive young people, the Head Boy, Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl. Their confidence and pride in their school community is testament to the excellent work being done at Oakfield to support the community, and the enhanced nursery facilities in the Acorns building is a key part of this.
“I’d like to thank the staff and children at the school for their warm welcome – and particularly Years 1 and 2 for their excellent singing.”
Coun Mistry added: “It was a delight to visit the school to meet the Head, staff and pupils, and to be shown around by the Head Boy and Head Girl and witness the great achievements of the school.”
