End of era as former school's association closes

ALUMNI of a former Rugby school have parted ways at the final meeting of their association.

The Old Murrayians Association, comprising former pupils of Murray School, held its final meeting at the Railway Club in Hillmorton Road.

Mayor Maggie O’Rourke attended the meeting and finally closed the Association down for good with 56 ‘old boys’ in attendance.

The school was originally part of the Trinity Parochial School in Rugby before moving to a new building in Bath Street in 1882 when it became known as Murray School. It remained on the site until 1965 when it amalgamated with Benn Girls’ School to become Fareham High School – which then closed in 1986.

The Old Murrayian Association was formed in 1948 and began by holding fish and chip suppers at various locations in Rugby over the years.
