Major revamp of Apple Grove park and play area underway

WORK has started on a major revamp of a Bilton park backed by a £100,000 grant from the FCC Communities Foundation.

The council developed the blueprint for the refurbishment of the Apple Grove park and play area following public consultations, with the revamp including new play equipment, paths and landscaping.

Work started on Monday and looks set to take eight weeks to complete.

Play equipment set to be installed includes slides and swings, a see-saw, toddler trail and multi-play units inspired by the park’s foliage.

New footpaths also connect Apple Grove to the borough’s expanding network of ‘green’ travel corridors, while the refurbishment also includes new seating and landscaping combining a mix of mown grass for play and ‘urban meadow’ grassland to support pollinator-friendly insects.

Rugby Borough Council leisure spokesman Tom Kittendorf said: “The council remains committed to investing in our parks and open spaces, and by working closely with residents we aim to ensure we deliver facilities which meet the needs of our communities.

“We’re delighted the FCC Communities Foundation has supported the Apple Grove refurbishment with a grant of £100,000 and we’re looking forward to the opening of the new play area in August, weather permitting.”

The FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit business, awards grants through the Landfill Communities Fund to support community, conservation and heritage projects.

Richard Smith, FCC Communities Foundation’s senior grant officer, said: “It’s always nice to see something we have funded start to take shape.

“We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting the community groups across Bilton.”
