A HEARTFELT message to NHS staff has earned two Crescent School pupils the regional prize in a national careers contest.
Daniel Ovens Gibbs, aged 10, and Josephine Lloyd, aged 11, impressed judges of Health Education England’s (HEE) Step into the NHS primary school competition with their creative poster saying ‘thank you’ to the NHS.
Schools explored the past, present and future of the NHS and its careers, culminating in them designing a piece of artwork expressing thanks to the NHS and its staff.
A delighted Josephine said: “It was really exciting to be involved in something so big and something that children across the whole country could take part in.
“I enjoyed being artistic and creative and was totally overwhelmed when I found out that Daniel and I had been selected as regional winners.”
Daniel added: “I really enjoyed learning about the NHS and finding out how many people there are doing so many different jobs.
“We came up with the idea of putting our own stories about the NHS helping us in little cartoons, and decided that decorating the poster with bunting would be a good way to celebrate the NHS.”
Deputy head teacher Bryony Forth said: ”All the Year 5 pupils who studied this project learned about so many new opportunities. It was particularly fascinating as our school, Crescent, also celebrated its 70th Anniversary in 2018, like the NHS.”
The Step into the NHS competition aims to raise awareness about the breadth of roles in the health service, raise aspirations and challenge gender stereotypes.
The 2018/19 national primary school competition received 629 entries from schools across the country.
All regional winners from across England have been awarded Amazon vouchers.
