THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for local charities at a special concert organised by the Friends of St Cross and the Rotary Club of Rugby Dunsmore.

The Rugby Philharmonic Choir and the Jaguar Land Rover Band wowed the audience at the third Gala Charity Concert in Rugby School’s Temple Speech Room.

They performed a wide range of music, with outstanding contributions from soprano Emma Griffiths and organist Dr Richard Dunster-Sigtermans.

The event raised over £4,000 for the hospital charity and other good causes supported by the Rotary Club.

Jaguar Land Rover Band manager Simon Archer said: “It was an honour and a pleasure for the band to perform in Rugby again and to support such great causes.”

Rugby Philharmonic Choir musical director Mervyn Bethell said: “Everyone enjoyed the performance and the collaboration with the Jaguar Land Rover Band was a great new experience for the Phil.”

Friends of St Cross chairman Willy Goldschmidt said: “The feedback from the audience was terrific. We are grateful to Lime Tree Retirement Village for their sponsorship of the concert which underwrote the costs of arranging the event.”

Rotary Club of Rugby Dunsmore chairman Mike Folly added: “The audience also appreciated the brief talk by the Mayor of Rugby about SSAFA, one of the charities he is supporting in his mayoral year and one of the charities that the Rotary Club will support with its share of the proceeds.”
