New homeware store opens in Rugby town centre

A NEW furniture and homeware business has set up shop in Rugby town centre – the latest to receive a grant to help get it off the ground.

Rugby Home will sell furniture, lighting, mirrors, clocks, rugs and home accessories from its 1,500 sq ft showroom in Albert Street.

Owner Nick Banyal said he originally opened the shop just to sell off stock from his previous shop in Towcester.

He said: “Interest and demand for the products was so strong, with new orders being placed, that I decided to go full steam ahead and start up the new shop.”

He got a helping hand from the Retail Start-Up Scheme funded by Rugby Borough Council and Rugby First, an award-winning initiative designed to attract new businesses to the town centre.

Rugby Borough Council growth and investment spokeswoman Coun Heather Timms said: “The scheme has helped a number of new independent businesses to open, boosting the town centre economy and expanding the choice on offer for shoppers.

“Rugby Home has brought another large retail unit back into use and I’m delighted we have been able to offer our support to Nick’s business.”

Rugby First Managing Director Aftab Gaffar said: “New businesses continue to open and invest in the town centre which is excellent news for customers and the local economy. I welcome Nick and his team to Rugby and wish them all the best going forward.”

Rugby Home is now open, on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. A ‘grand opening’ event is planned for Saturday April 8.
