THE PAST came alive for pupils at Hillmorton Primary when a pair of historians presented the school with a new book for the library and a large piece of artwork as part of the school’s mast site art project.

The project involved pupils of all ages researching Rugby’s new neighbourhood Houlton, the former mast site, as well as interview former workers and historians.

Malcolm Hancock and Johanne Thomas brought along the book and wall collage – which showcase the children’s findings, artworks, sculptures, photography, drawings and poems – to mark the end of the project.

Head teacher Catherine Crisp said: “We were delighted to receive this fantastic keepsake as a reminder of our efforts working on the heritage arts project.

“It was a wonderful project to be involved with and it presented multiple learning opportunities for the children across a variety of disciplines.

“The project was truly educational and the children had a great time and a lot of fun at the old mast site.”

Johanne Thomas of Urban & Civic, one of the companies behind the Houlton development, said: “Working with local schools and using the development to engage and inspire children is something we do across all of our large development sites.

“We look forward to working with Hillmorton Primary and other local schools to bring more opportunities for children to learn about development and topics like ecology, architecture and construction.”
