BBC cameras heading to Monks Kirby for new series Street Auction

CAMERAS from a new BBC 1 series will capture a community coming together for a local good cause in Monks Kirby tomorrow (Saturday August 13).

Presenter Paul Martin, of Flog It fame, will bring his crew to St Edith’s Close for an episode of Street Auction.

Last month neighbours in the area were asked to donate unwanted and unloved items which will be sold at a ‘pop up’ auction hosted by Paul.

The auction will form part of a street party with stalls of donated items including cakes, bric-a-brac, books and plants, along with other fund-raising initiatives and entertainment. The stalls will all add to the total being raised and, at the end of the event, the grand total will be announced – as will the local cause which will receive the money.

Paul Martin said: “We are really looking forward to it. We met some wonderful people on our rummaging day and it makes you realise how keen people are to help in a community effort.

“It also makes you aware of the things you’ve got lying around that you’d be willing to part with for a good cause.

“We’ve found some great things in sheds and attics. The fantastic people of Monks Kirby have been incredibly generous and local people and have really got behind the event. We’ve had a wide range of generous donations, from a vintage sewing machine through to furniture and an antique bike.

“We hope lots of people will come along on the day and bring something to sell for the fund – whether it’s a cake you’ve baked or something you’ve fallen out of love with that can find a new home on one of our stalls.”

Filming takes place from 1.30-5pm.
