Floral flair sends Rugby into Britain in Bloom finals

SELECTED from more than 3,000 entrants, Rugby has been named one of the finalists for Britain in Bloom 2016.

The town was selected among the Heart of England participants to go on to the finals of the competition – joining more than 70 other groups from the UK in the final stage.

Joining other West Midlands groups – Birmingham, Studley and Upton on Severn – Rugby was selected for ‘outstanding commitment to environmental responsibility, community participation and gardening achievement’.

In August, Rugby volunteers working behind the Britain in Bloom projects will show judges from the Royal Horticultural Society around the town’s floral displays.

Andrea Van Sittart, RHS Head of Community Outreach, said: “We would like to congratulate these groups for reaching the UK finals of RHS Britain in Bloom. It’s a tremendous achievement and illustrates the groups’ impressive commitment to improving their local environment.

“Volunteers of all ages and all walks of life participate in Bloom, making extraordinary efforts to improve streets and neighbourhoods in towns, villages and cities across Britain. It is vital we celebrate and recognise their efforts to strengthen their communities and inspire others to get involved.”

Britain in Bloom entrants are assessed on a wide range of criteria, including maintenance of parks and communal gardens, the management of natural spaces, community campaigns to promote recycling and environmental awareness, and projects involving local residents and schools.
