THE SKIES above Rugby had some unusual visitors yesterday evening (Monday February 1).
Nacreous clouds – otherwise known as mother-of-pearl-clouds – were photographed by reader Raymond Borkowski from his home in Larkspur.
The Northern Lights-like clouds normally occur in the stratosphere over the Poles during the Polar winter, when temperatures are extremely cold (-78 degrees celsius or below). They are rarely seen in the UK.
Raymond said: “There were blues, purples, greens and yellows – this phenomenon lasted about 30 minutes.”
