A DEBUT goal from Tyler Bruck could not prevent Rugby Town from dropping to the bottom of the table following a 2-1 home defeat against Long Eaton United.

Bruck drew Valley level on the stroke of half time as the Redditch United loanee marked his debut with a goal at Butlin Road.

However, Jahvan Davidson-Miller put Long Eaton back in front early in the second period after Tristan Thompson-Matthews scored the game’s opening goal for the visitors.

The result means Rugby slip to the bottom of the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points from safety following an eighth game without a win.

Both teams went into the fixture without a win in seven games which has seen Valley drop to the basement of the division.

And Long Eaton broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Thompson-Matthews volleyed a cross from the right into the roof of the net at the back post from close range.

The home side equalised moments before the break as Bruck coolly found the net when one-on-one with Long Eaton goalkeeper Lewis King.

However, the visitors reclaimed the lead eight minutes after the break when former Valley striker Davidson-Miller finished past Xander Grieves at the second attempt.

King denied Bruck when clean through later in the half while Rivel Mardenborough saw his appeals for a penalty waved away by the referee late on.

Rugby are next in action against Bourne Town on Saturday, March 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
