Christmas shoppers urged to buy presents in Rugby on Small Business Saturday

CHRISTMAS shoppers have been urged to buy their presents in Rugby as part of this year’s national ‘Small Business Saturday’ campaign.

Mayor Barbara Brown, Rugby MP John Slinger and Rugby First Business Director Linda Lowne will throw their support behind the campaign when they visit town centre businesses today (Saturday December 6).

Pop-up shops within existing businesses, festive entertainment, and a visit from Father Christmas will take place in the town centre on the day.

Taking place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, Small Business Saturday highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop local and support small businesses in their communities.

Linda Lowne said: “Small Business Saturday is an excellent way of raising awareness of small-town centre businesses and we fully support it.

“Rugby has an amazing range of diverse and independent shops offering unique and personal gifts and services. One small purchase can make a big difference to a small business, and I would ask people to support their local businesses not only at Christmas but throughout the year.”

Coun Brown added: “Small businesses are vital to the local economy. They provide jobs and ensure spend is retained within the local area.

“‘Small Business Saturday’ is a great way to support and raise awareness of the local business community, and we are extremely lucky to have such a diverse range of fantastic small and independent businesses in the area, and we need to support them.”

John Slinger said: “Like many others, I try and shop locally wherever I can and Rugby has a number of unique retailers and services who can provide some really special gifts and services, at Christmas, but importantly throughout the year.”
