A LINE-up of entertainers has been announced for Rugby’s first ever Fire and Ice spectacular event, which takes place in the town centre from 2-7pm on Sunday (November 30).

Sculptors will use a selection of chainsaws and power tools to transform ice blocks into works of art at a series of ice carving shows in Market Place.

The Cosmic Faerie will perform fire dancing with a variety of props including poi, levitation wand and rope dart, followed by some body burning, fire eating and fire breathing.

Music and dance will be provided by performances from The Big Sing, Impact Dance, Magic Voices, Rugby Community Choir, Rugby Town Concert band, Shchedryk, Rugby Baptist Church Choir and Raga and Rhythm.

The event will revolve around eight ice sculptures lit by fire beacons, linking a trail which includes a carving wall, story-telling, music, dance, fire breathing, walkabout characters, festive craft activities, Father Christmas, a funfair, food, toasted marshmallows, face painting and more.

The sculptures, up to two metres tall, have been carved from blocks of ice and transformed into detailed sculptures of Rudolph, Santa’s sleigh, The Snowman, an elf, a stocking filled with goodies, angel wings, a carving wall and a post box where you can post a letter to Santa.

Initially illuminated with white light, the sculptures will be transformed with multicoloured lights when darkness falls.

The town centre trail will include more surprises, such as fire pits, toasted marshmallows, Christmas tales in a bell tent, a living nativity, The Snowman movie, hot chocolate, mulled wine and Santa’s Grotto.

There will also be a range of free ‘make and take’ activities including writing a letter to Santa, creating your own Christmas card, decorating a gingerbread tree decoration, and making your own mini angel lantern.

Organisers Rugby First and Rugby Borough Council have put together a leaflet highlighting the day’s events.

Rugby First Business Director Linda Lowne said: “This promises to be a magical event and seems to have really captured people’s imagination.

“There is a lot going on, so it’s really important you pick up a copy of the leaflet to make sure you do not miss out on any of the ice sculptures or sparkling entertainment that is taking place on the day.

“The trail and activities provide a great way to bring families, friends and communities together, while at the same time discovering and supporting town centre businesses.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those groups, organisations, individuals and businesses that have helped bring this event to life.”
