Pop-up Christmas shop to host charity which 'transforms lives'

A POP-UP Christmas shop is hosting a Rugby-based charity which ‘transforms lives’ for the second year running.

Rugby Christmas Cracker – a pop-up shop in Rugby Central Shopping Centre which runs the Crackerteria cafe – is teaming up with the charity Tools With A Mission (TWAM), which sends refurbished tools to communities in need in Africa to create livelihoods and change lives.

The charity will have a stall in the Crackerteria, selling tools which cannot be sent to Africa to raise funds for the expensive process of shipping overseas.

This year, the charity plans to send 23 – filled with refurbished tools such as sewing machines, donated computers, and power tools – to Africa.

The tools are packed into trade kits and sent to local organisations that teach vulnerable members of society valuable skills such as carpentry, tailoring and mechanics.

Rugby Christmas Cracker organiser Katie Thomas said: “Rugby Christmas Cracker puts all the money raised by their sales towards helping the poorest and most marginalised women in India and Nepal to learn tailoring skills so they can earn a living and support their families – an ethos shared by TWAM.”

Crackerteria is now open in the old Boots store in Rugby Central, serving hot and cold drinks, light lunches and evening meals. TWAM will have a presence at Crackerteria from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 10am-2pm, until December 20.
