RUGBY Town saw their winless run in the league stretch to four matches following a 2-0 defeat at AFC Rushden and Diamonds.

Goals after the break from Tyler Winters and Bruno Andrade condemned Valley to back-to-back league defeats at Hayden Road.

The result means Rugby sit 14th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Valley went close either side of half time as Rivel Mardenborough fired wide before the break while Dan Jezeph made a fine reaction save to deny Cairo Taylor early in the second period.

However, Rushden broke the deadlock on 53 minutes when Winters scrambled the ball into the net after Rugby failed to deal with a corner.

And Diamonds sealed the points one minute from time as Andrade turned home the rebound after Marcus Bald kept out substitute Will Russell’s low shot.

Valley are next in action against local rivals Rugby Borough on Saturday, November 29 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
