EXPERTLY carved ice sculptures will appear in Rugby town centre at the town’s first Fire and Ice Spectacular at the end of the month.

The sculptures, fire beacons and live ice carving shows will provide the backdrop for the event, which takes place on Sunday November 30.

The sculptures, up to two metres tall, will include Rudolph, Santa’s sleigh, The Snowman, an elf, a stocking filled with goodies, angel wings, a carving wall and a post box for letters to Father Christmas.

Initially lit with white light, the sculptures will be transformed with multicoloured light after dark. Each will also have its own fire beacon.

Sculptors will show off their skills at a series of live ice carving shows, in which ice artists will speed-carve in 15 minutes using a selection of chainsaws and power tools, with fireballs and sparkles hitting the ice throughout.

The event will also feature a carving wall, story-telling, music, dance, fire breathing, walkabout characters, festive craft activities, Father Christmas, a funfair, food, toasted marshmallows, face painting and more.

Rugby First Business Director Linda Lowne said: “This new event is all about bringing back the magic and sparkle to Christmas, and creating some beautiful moments and memories, for residents and visitors from further afield.

“There are also opportunities for your little elves to enjoy ‘Make and take’ festive activities, listen to a story, toast marshmallows, meet Santa, be entertained by a real life elf, listen to carols and live music, a living nativity, enjoy a ride at the funfair or get blown away by our snow blower.”

The free event will run from 2pm to 7pm on Sunday November 30. Visit www.rugbyfirst.org for more information.
