LEGENDS of rugby came to the birthplace of the game as hundreds flocked to a special matchday at Rugby Lions.

Scott Quinnell delivers a rousing team talk.

Ex-Wales captain Scott Quinnell and ex-England international Alex Goode were the guests of honour at Rugby Football Club’s match against Oundle II.

Their visit coincided with a special ‘Rugby’s Biggest Round’ matchday celebration to mark the club’s new partnership with Camden Town Brewery – complete with a free pint for every attendee.

Team talk specialist Scott Quinnell rallied the team ahead of the match with a rousing speech that had the dressing room roaring.

And Alex Goode was persuaded to come out of retirement and pull on his boots for a one-off appearance for the Lions.

All ticket proceeds went towards infrastructure improvements at the Webb Ellis Stadium, such as a set of new floodlights.

The partnership with Camden Town Brewery will see the company contribute to renovations, including fixing up the rundown stand and turnstiles, and supplying equipment across every level of the club.

All attendees received a free pint from club sponsors Camden Town Brewery.

Mal Malik, Chairman of Rugby Football Club, said: “We’re so grateful for the sponsorship that is promising to bring a smile to the club and community.

“We’re one of many grassroots clubs that has felt the squeeze in the past decade, and to have a vehicle to create a change to the sport up and down the country is a refreshing notion for the future.”

George Fitzroy, our Head of Marketing at Camden Town Brewery, added: “Last year we unveiled Give ‘Em Hells, an initiative designed to provide vital support to rugby clubs across the UK. The aim is to foster stronger community connections through the shared love of rugby and beer.”
