RUGBY Town missed all three of their spot kicks in the shootout as Valley exited the FA Trophy on penalties at higher-division Worcester City.

Valley came from two goals down to take the game to a shootout as Olly West’s dramatic injury-time header forced penalties at Sixways Stadium.

However, Rugby missed all three of their penalties while Worcester converted three times from the spot to seal a 3-0 win and dump Valley out of the competition.

Worcester play one level above Rugby in the Southern League Premier Central division.

And City broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Dan Sweeney finished from point-blank range after Rugby failed to deal with a corner from the right.

Sweeney doubled Worcester’s lead two minutes later as the striker controlled Kobe Chong’s low ball in from the left and produced an acrobatic overhead kick into the bottom right corner from 10-yards out.

Rugby halved the deficit five minutes before half time as Caine Elliott headed in on the rebound after Harley Price saved Cairo Taylor’s initial effort.

And Valley equalised four minutes into injury time as substitute West headed in Bleu McNeil’s cross from Elliott’s short corner.

However, Rugby endured a nightmare shootout as Elliott, West and Callum Griffin all failed to find the net while Worcester converted all three of their spot kicks.

Rugby are next in action against Coleshill Town on Tuesday, October 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Butlin Road.
